I just posted an entry on my LJ about it. it's nothing special, but if you wish to share any part of it feel free.
the "message" issue is a big one that the movement takes a lot of criticism for. I'd argue that the central message is quite clear: that people are upset with the current political climate. (there is a clear difference between "message" and "goals", however; admittedly there are no clear goals as of yet, only general ones)
we could boil that down even further and say something more exact: that people are upset that there is no social mobility in the USA; that money corrupts politics; that the media is totally biased and only presents surface, divisive "issues", rather than honestly discussing pertinent issues ... etc.
right now, the movement is nothing but a gathering of discontented citizens who are tired of the status quo, tired of being promised change and only getting something worse than before.
and I think that's important. I think it's too early to formulate an exact list of demands. right now the movement needs to have the most broad-appeal possible, to garner support. to pick a specific law to create or repeal severely limits the exposure and support we could get.
first, let everyone gather to discuss and debate. the movement will grow closer together, and people will be more willing to consider issues with an open mind among peers...
at least, that's the idea!
a couple of my family members will be at the occupy lawrence protest on october 8th. I definitely encourage you to go and engage in meaningful political discourse!
