Bot the US and N. Korea have unhinged, blustering, warmonger leaders. This Is Not Good. I kept wondering what all those "It was a dud" comments were meant to elicit. Guess we've found out.
...And yet Bush's response to the North Korean situation carries some of the softest language this administration has passed down in many years. I think it's safe to say that President Kim has a few bolts missing.
My son spent 1.5 years in Seoul, and came back pretty fluent in Hangul. We have -- what? -- 30,000 troops there. They are hostages to Bush and Kim Jong Il. Not Good.
Y'know, I thought we were "drawing down" the number of US troops in S. Korea? Now we know why: So N. Korea can blow the shit out of the South without directly harming any Americans.
I know that this is a very dire situation, and yet I cannot help feeling like there is an element of the absurd to it. All I can think of is the Kim Jong Il puppet in the movie "Team America" singing, "I'm Ronery." It's like he's trying so desperately to get our country's attention, but he's graduated from figuratively humping our collective leg like a boxer puppy to uncorking nukes. I want to laugh and scream at the same time.
