messiness = good for creativity

Proof! Proof! I guess I needn't worry about tidying up the desk or house. Turns out clutter and disorder enhances creativity and innovation. In fact, too much focus on organization and orderliness limits creative opportunities.

David Friedman, author of "A Perfect Mess..." sez this. It must be true; it's on the news right now. Even the Marines do this intentionally, as it turns out. And look at Einstein. So there, neat freaks, leave my mess alone *g*

Whatever - you know you're jealous of my rigorously organized Magic collection.

We should form a club or something.

Good idea, Jen. Sadly, we just can't seem to get organized.

I had a really long reply written out full of "You know I love you but..." and then decided to skip it. So, uh, hi.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Harumph.

I know where all my stuff is amid the clutter. It's just other people who'll never find anything.

[identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com 2006-12-28 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I read that, too. I think there is a middle ground. A certain amount of clutter helps; too much and you can't get to anything or find the room to use it.

Neat freaks! Leave my mess alone!
All in all, it's just another scrap on the pile.

(That's supposed to be to the tune of "Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd.)

I was going into the office later to clean my desk up. I haven't seen worksurface since Haloween. Now I'm giving it a second thought.
