I saw SIX (count 'em, 6!) squirrels on my back patio today after putting out food! Six, all at once! One was even a different breed, sort of reddish along the flanks and tail, with longer ear-fur. Cute! Another, a regular gray squirrel, looks like it had survived a fight with a dog, bearing scars all over its body, a crooked ear, and a sort of right-sided lean as it walked. Charming. A second group rotated in after a while, two juveniles who couldn't have been more than half the weight of the adults.

I put food out three times to keep them around for a while, and because it was - in the words of the local weather-dude - "brutally cold."

Yay! Squirrels! Hope you left extra for the scarred up one.

Come to think of it... my yard has been devoid of squirrels (and birds) for the past couple of weeks, and the cats are terribly bored.

Yep, he's why I put out extra. This morning, a little wounded one was nosing around looking for food, so I tossed out a big heap more hoping he'll come back down the tree and gobble. This one appears to even have lost an eye.

I suspect the neighbor cat.

I wish you could make them little houses for when it's cold, but I suppose they wouldn't use them.

You're a good person, looking out for small mammals such as squirrels and pizza.

Well, I have to admit that I don't really look out for the pizzas of the world in the same way that I look out for my neighborhood squirrels. I mean, sure, I give pieces of pizza a nice, cold, protective home, just the way they like it. But after a week or two, I give in to temptation and devour the little bastards.

Yum! (PS: Ironic, this discussion; I just finished a breakfast that consisted of a piece of week-old pizza and - wait for it! - some Peanut Butter Crunch for dessert!)

Maybe the injured one is a secret agent. Be on the lookout for a mole.

Surely there is a warm and cozy corner of heaven reserved for Friends to Squirrels such as yourself! I like a good cold snap, but what you and the Midwest are experiencing sounds completely ridiculous.

Well, it's not so bad right now: It'll reach all of 25F today, and as much as 40F tomorrow, w00t!

Squirrel movie uploading to YouTube as we speak, especially for you... give it an hour or two to go through its process, though.

OMG - I remember those fellas! Hm, I suspect the mole would remain hidden....
