Okay, this is scary as freakin' hell:

Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters. A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.

The report:

It's no surprise, but the timing is REALLY near-term.

Best,
Chris

And my cyberpunk dystopia looms ever larger...looks like we'll make the literary timetable for it, after all.

Guess I better start saving up the scratch for some bio-engineered cyberlungs, an extra heart, a few layers easy-gro muscle, and some big, big guns. Embrace the apocalypse!

Ever see the film "Stalker" by Andrei Tarkovsky?

I love your response: ANARCHY NOW, BEOTCHES! COME GET IT!

Yeah, well, on the positive side it turns out that the Guardian is over-reacting a bit. Seems that this was only a worst-case scenario.

So there's hope. There's always hope.

Yes...it's either take the laughing gas and enjoy my Apockylips, or curl up and cry in the corner like the weak-kneed liberal that I am.

No one in power seems to want to address the very real problem of a civilization completely dependent upon non-renewable sources of energy. This leads to numerous conclusions, some of which seem to be (a) they know and don't care (b) they know and have given up possibility of solution (c) they're utterly stupid (see prev two) (d) they're waiting for things to come down so they can reveal that they are sitting on the Technology That Can Save Us, establish their New World Korporate Medieval State, and enslave the globe (What I call my "Hello Revolt In 2100!" scenario).

At least I'm a good shot and ambidextrous with both rifle and pistol.

Sign me up for that laughing gas, pleez.

I used to be a good shot with a rifle, but a recent excursion to a shooting range proved me to be waaay out of practice. Drat.
