astro-image of the day: dust pillar in the Carina Nebula

Wow. Why can't SF shows and movies spend a little time exploring things like this? Don't leave out the sense of wonder we feel about amazing things in space! Wouldn't that be more interesting than SF-troped soap operas?

EDIT: Oh my, check out this amazing page with a full-width, zoomable, interactive image of which this is a slice. Double-wow.

I recall a particularly sexy scene with John and Aeryn in Farscape that showed some sort of nebula behind them, out one of Talyn's windows. Does that count?

did anyone else go look at the sweet panoramic image at hubble's site that this is cropped from?

I love these pix you post.... even when they bugger up my friends page width ;)

Dang, I've been resizing them, even. What's your screen width (in pixels)? What width image is too wide?

I've got it set to 1064x768 on this unit at work.
I can tell you'd resized them because they're small enough to get past my filter for image size.
Could just be a fluke on this monitor... it's ANCIENT.

Looks like Moses on the mountain top, staff in hand!
