Was about to go to sleep and realized that I've neglected my astro-photo-a-day! Here you go, a true spiral galaxy in contrast to the last, which was a barred-spiral:
I think this is my favorite astroimage o'the day yet. Perfectly smooth and symmetrical... clean lines... from this distance it looks so serene. Funny to think how much break-neck speed is actually there, and how many roaring nuclear furnaces. And how much potential life.
Oh, I know. This is part of why I love galaxies so much: the vastness, the power, the serenity, the violence, the potential... they are "island universes" to use the old nomenclature.
