Many of y'all who live in other parts of the world, or in other countries, have a certain idea about Kansas and wonder why I would choose to live here. Well, I've always contended that I don't really live in Kansas; I live in Lawrence. When I first asked James Gunn why he chose to live in a state that does stoopid things like outlaw the teaching of evolution, he answered, "Lawrence is an oasis of liberalism in a desert of conservatism."

That sums up pretty well one of the reasons that I love this town. Here's another. Yes, Lawrence rocks.

Best,
Chris

It's the same thing for me with Austin. This is the only city in Texas I'd ever want to live in.

Lawrence is liberal COMPARED to the rest of Kansas, but compared to other places (outside of Kansas) it is just tolerant.

Pooch could loose a job, or we could be refused housing because he is TG, even in Lawrence. The only thing that the Lawrence DP registration will count for on the city level is that the "no more then 3 unrelated people can live together" will now recognize registered DPs.

Star - who can't wait to get out of Lawrence

I loved living in Lawrence. I remember when the city commission wanted to demolish downtown and put a mall there, and exactly what the citizens of Lawrence did to thwart that stupid idea.

Lawrence is still liberal compared to a lot of places outside of Kansas, too.

I, for one amongst many, am very glad for the time you and Pooch have made this your home and we've gotten to know you and count you as friends for life.

It's hell in the summer (cuz who doesn't like 60+ straight days of 100+ with no rain?), but the rest of the year is fab.

I find Lawrence to be a extremely nice small town that reminds me of all the good things about the town where I grew up.

...it's not so bad

I don't really consider myself to be living in Lawrence, but rather living in a college town that is bordered on all sides by Lawrence which is in the corner of Kansas. So I think that means I still live in Kansas. I'm thinking Lawrence is starting to get the Texas complex (Well...we're not really associated with them 'Americans'). Other than that I was having a good time in this town until a series of unfortunate events happened to my car.

Yeah, but it's still KANSAS. You're still a million miles from mountains or oceans. You're still surrounded by asshat cowboys and miles of wheat and sunflower.
