A guy that my dad used to beat up when they were kids (But who later became one of my grandparents' friends) is one of Dyson's co-workers. That's about as close as I come to meeting him.

Dyson is curiously underexploited as a source of ideas by SF writers (with the exception of the Dyson Sphere [1]).

Oh, and one or two people have heard about the Orion Rocket. I think that may be more due to John McPhee than Freeman Dyson, though.
