I had a lot of not-fun today, right? Now I can add to that the joy of bicycling home in the dark through snowdrifts. Yes, while I was busy blowing a day writing up eBay ads for naught, snow was heaping up outside.

That was fun. I shoveled the four inches or so of accumulation - at 2:30 in the morning, no less! I expect that it'll be back by tomorrow morning. Ah, yes: The National Weather Service says, "Total nighttime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible."

I wonder how well-attended classes will be for the first day of Spring semester at KU?

What really sucks is that I shoveled before going to bed last night, too. I'd say there were two inches on the ground when I went over the sidewalks. So that means if you shoveled four inches...Yikes.

Sorry about all the snow! We don't have any precipitation here, but it sure is cold out, which by itself still makes it awfully hard to up in the morning when one is very comfy with a thick blanket and flannel sheets on the bed.

I was surprised by the lack of plowing in Lawrence (I'm an east coast person. Plows would have been out, along with sand and -- in New England, at least -- salt.)

Roadside/ditch debris between Lawrence and Topeka this morning: two overturned tractor-trailer trucks, two overturned cars, and a third car mostly off the road and turned around.

There is nothing consistent about Lawrence weather. One year we had 18" of snow on 2/13 -- and even though KU classes were cancelled, the hundreds who had failed to buy valentines were in the old Oread shop in force. Another year we had a picnic at Clinton Lake on 2/14 because it was 70 degrees out. A misguided moth even landed on my wool shirt, hoping for a meal.

No matter what global conditions are supposed to be like, local weather will no doubt continue to confound prediction.

It was very cold here, too, so the snow is white and fluffy.

Yeah, the slow-to-plow thing is irritating, but I'm grateful for the lack of car-eating salt. The do toss down gravel sometimes.

Wow, that's some debris!

I suspected, as the drifts to the sides of the walk were higher.

Lawrence was an exceedingly fun place to live. I've always been sorry I had to move.

Yay. I can't WAIT to return to my daily Larryville-Topeka commute again....
