You know how yesterday I posted about
the good and the bad? Well, let's add a new pair from today:
Good: The Department Chair found a way to pay me for part of my summer work, so I won't be broke during the SF Institute. I guess 1/4 salary is better than 0/4.
Bad: I blew a gasket after class tonight. I mean that literally; symptoms suggest the head gasket on my Saab convertible gave out. I was half-way home from a 3-hour night class in Kansas City (KU-Edwards campus) when the car overheated and started running rough. I didn't get home until nearly midnight. Thankfully, I have AAA insurance; the tow-truck driver was quick and nice and got me home in a jiffy without cost. Now I just need to remove the ENTIRE TOP END of the engine, replace the head gasket, likely get the head machined, and then put it all back together. Woohoo, another project for spring break.
Here's hoping your night went better!
Best,
Chris

Mike had drill
His car didn't come home, a valve decided to shatter and render the engine into a doorstop.
It had first showed signs of trouble about an hour out, but got them to their hotel. It finally went belly-up while Allison was driving it the next day.
So now he's car-shopping. AT least you can fix yours.

I'm so happy I'd made brownies on a whim. I hope they helped, once you finally got home. Hurray for friendly tow-truck drivers!
edit: We should've known something would throw a wrench into our Spring Break plans...

I've been looking forward to driving the Crossfire again, anyway. Ice is gone, salt is washed off the roads, and the roads beckon a little red sports car ;-)

An internal gasket failure gives you a rough burn and you get coolant in the oil and vice versa. When the failure's on the outer edge, you can get a lovely steamy oily pressure-driven 300-degree mist....
