TRANSCENDENCE has a cover!

Earlier today, the book designer (Melissa J. Lytton) finished the last touch-ups to the cover, the editor (ericreynolds) finished the last copyedits to the text, and I wrote the front matter. Tonight, Eric sent the files off to the printer.

Eeeeee!

And look how beautiful. Here's the front cover and spine; the art wraps all the way around, and will wrap around the inside flaps on the hardcover:



The piece of art is "Neptune Skies," by Greg Martin. If you look closely, you can even see the crescent moon, Triton, above the title (an important setting in the book). I can imagine one of the characters flying above these very clouds, imagining the events unfolding on the surface of that little world, so far from the Sun and Earth and the rest of thronging humankind.

The back cover is really cool, too, and we'll be posting that soon. I'm so very happy with how it looks; how many writers can say that about their first book?

If all goes well, we'll get the advance reading copies in just a couple of weeks. Three months later, the harcover hits the shelves of fine bookstores everywhere. It's published by Hadley Rille Books, a fine small press in Kansas City. I got involved with the publisher by having several of my short stories in Hadley Rille anthologies. Eric is a good man, and I'm so pleased to be a part of his efforts. My experiences with him show why we should all support small press.

Did I mention how pleased and excited I am? Eeeeee!
