Replacing main or rod bearings from underneath is in some ways simpler than replacing lifters! Just lift the engine slightly, pull the oil pan, and go from there. Lifters sit on top of the block, but in the valley between the heads, so they require removing everything up top.
I think I'll just leave off the A/C unit when I put it back together, just in case....
