Did you get a chance to meet him? I lucked out and met Julius Schwartz a few years ago, and got ten minutes of being regaled with tales from the Golden Age of SF. I was so sad when he died. :^(
Sure did, at Windycon (Chicago con). He was always so full of life, perpetually friendly and unmiffable, and quick to help young artists; it's strange to think of him not alive.
Speaking of the Golden Age and losing our heroes, Hal Clement came to the Campbell Conference a few years ago, gave us many tales of his life as a WWII bomber pilot and lots of writing tips.
I don't like this mortality thing. I think the dying should be used up by neocons and such rather than The Greats.
