"DO NOT READ"

The "Tempting Fate" meme:

1. Make an LJ-cut post with "DO NOT READ" as the text.
2. Do not select a "mood" for this post.
3. If anyone clicks the cut, they are to comment and admit to doing so.
4. Anyone who reads this also has to do the same in THEIR journal, thus continuing the neverending madness.

Heh,

Oh, har de har. I saw right through this one. If you comment without reading it first, then you can read it on your "Post a comment in response" page and you're home free.

Me, I read it cos this was the third one I saw, and wanted to know what meme-nonsense was afoot.

No, I won't be posting it. There's enough crap out on the web without adding chain-letter memes.

Bollocks, I say.

Sweet? I think you misspelled 'curt'...

I don't mind memes, and there's been a couple of very good ones that I missed cos I was so busy in Jan & Feb. I actually will dig those up and take my shot at them some time...

Oh, and I bet you don't forward those pyramid letters, either? You're the one who prevents me from earning millions! Bastard!

Chris

Not only don't I forward them, I burn them in effigy, bucko!

Guilty, but I will not post the chain letter.

I'm still trying to hold to a strict "no memes" policy.

What a sad world it would be if there were no memes... ah, the sunshiney joy of the early morning "What level spellcaster are you?" meme, or the afternoon "if you were a crumb on the kitchen floor, what would you be?"

Chris

Sure, sometimes they are amusing. Sometimes.

But they are mental junk food, the Twinkies of the life of the mind.

I always regret posting the damn things. They make me feel fannish and weak. Sure I have something more substantial to offer, no?

My distain for the memes probably comes from the Germanic pragmatism in me. Or the Northern European gloom in ma soul. :)

Fewer calories than the Chick-Fil-A, and only half the saturated fat.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't normally pass on stupid memes, but some just give me a chuckle and others are actually really interesting, like those where you get to know your friends better. Those are substantial and, in fact, promote kinship among people spread around the world.

Meme Spreader!

Wolf, you're spreading the meme anyway, since I got this off your Friend's List!

(Alas, I cannot pass it on, since I'm on blogspot, and the concept "After the cut" means little to me)

Re: Meme Spreader!

Jeff, I have more than once kicked people off my Friends list because they post almost nothing of value: just memes, quizzes, and other blogjunk. I may like them as people, but (for me) LJ is about what you post as much as who you are.

Fortunately, [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick has a good meme-to-real-posts ratio, and will never get kicked off my flist.

Re: Meme Spreader!

I have yet to kick anyone off my friends list, but I've not added certain people because they're LJs are too full of fluff. When I first started this, I did post a few quizzes and memes, but I've reduced this to a bare minimum because I noticed how boring they were to read.

I'll admit some are useful--like the longevity quiz that Chris posted a while ago that suggests not just how long you've got to live but what you can do to improve it. Same goes for certain memes. The ones that really get you to tell about yourself are at least fun to read even if not terribly insightful. Otherwise, I'm with you Wolf and wish people would post less junk.

I love those - memes as self-analysis tools ;-)

I like what my friend [livejournal.com profile] eusashead had to say...

Happy Belated Banned Books Week! Like she's gonna not read something she's told she shouldn't! haha!

What be these memes you speak of? We do not have them on planet Zebulon. Are they tasty, with crunchy layers and insides that go squish when you bit into them. We especially like the ones with extra bursting so green and red juices trickle out of the three corners of your mouth.

If these be memes, we love memes. If these be not memes, then crush them like the cropuscules they are.

Disinherit the Earth!

After reading several months of posts, I couldn't help myself! I'm weak! I clicked! Just shoot me now!
