Okay, I'm off home to watch Tornado Porn TM on the Weather Channel... and hopefully I'll be in it! Well, not directly, but you know.

Super-cells overhead. Not yet raining, so off I go on the scoot before getting soaked.

They really all look to be headed north of us (again!) I miss the adrenaline rush that is a Kansas spring. When will the rain get here, please?

The weather radar is discouraging. All north of here.

I shouldn't hope for bad weather, I know, but I find a good thunderstorm so invigorating. I'm sure I'd feel different if I was a homeowner. ;)

Oh, I dunno, I'm a homeowner and I think storms are cool!

You can wish for storm watching after I get done driving home on the big open plains, tyvm.

From: [identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com

Yup. Made it home without much rain, even. Stupid storm took out the cable for a while, though, and we lost all the shows we were going to record. grumblegrumble

Hey, Dorothy--be careful, okay?

Heee. Our house stands at the bottom of KU's big "Mount Oread," so it's highly unlikely any tornadoes would hit us directly.

On the other hand, Lawrence is right in the middle of "Tornado Alley." Heh. Cool to watch.

I hear there are now tornado tour services, where a half-dozen folks pile into a van led by a tornado-chaser and spend a week watching big storms, following around a Doppler radar truck. How cool is that?

Not missing tornadoes, even a little bit.

Wait, let me think..... nope, not one little bit.

Me neither. Weather should not have a "kill people, destroy property" option.

(Hey WW, remember when we were in the theatre to watch that silly tornado movie, and the tornado had swept up sheds, cars, cows, etc? We were clutching the armrests with barely concealed primal fear born of childhood memories. The person in front of us started laughing an talking about how fake it was. We neary killed him).

Shall we talk about natural dangers, miss? How about, oh, say, having a few active volcanoes within shootin' distance of home? Now that's scary. Tornadoes only hit small areas by comparison. And gently, really.

Oh, and a magnitude-9 earthquake to hit "any day now..."

Tornado? Piffle.

From: [identity profile] woadwarrior.livejournal.com

Well it seems to happen only once every twenty years or so,(n=2! not a large number I think you'll agree) and the last "eruption" could hardly be called a burp.

I remember driving around with the my parents after tornadoes, house, house, foundation, house... It's the sheer capriciousness of the event that makes them so icky.

From: [identity profile] jeanineers.livejournal.com

Oh, yeah. Our volcanos are very scary. They give days or weeks of warning before belching ash into the air. And they have very little impact on population centers. And the only long term effects are better crops due to volcanic ash in the soil.

...don't EVEN get me started on the up side of earthquakes (wink).

Heh. Hey, I stood under one once! Did I tell you that story? Coolio stuff, sir.
