LJ experts: how do I customize my theme's CSS?

I created a custom CSS that I want to apply to my LJ, but LJ doesn't seem to be paying any attention to it. I've used the Customize LJ CSS page, changed my LJ theme to "unstyled," input my CSS (both with a link and with full-text code), all to no avail.
