For those of you who ask, "Lawrence? Where the heck is that?" I have this answer:

Finally, there’s proof that Lawrence is the center of everything. Start up “Google Earth,” a free satellite photo mapping program available on the Internet, and you see a distant view of the planet. Use the zoom feature to magnify the planet, though, and you end up with a bird’s-eye view of Lawrence.

“A lot of people think that Kansas is in the middle of nowhere,” said Mayor Boog Highberger, who first heard about Lawrence’s Google distinction a month ago in an e-mail from Georgia. “I prefer to think that we’re in the middle of everywhere. And Google apparently agrees.” - Lawrence Journal-World

Download Google Earth here. It's neato!

Hmmm... definitely not the center of things (except nowhere *g*). I bet you bumped the arrow key while zooming.

Oh! And I wonder where the center is if you live in the other hemisphere?

Hm... I bet the user's location has an effect, eh? Darn, I thought Lawrence was the Center of All Things.

It's pretty close! So that would make my place the center of the world: cool.

You mean my new default icon? Yeah, that was early January 2004, big snowstorm. Note the 1/2-inch-thick hunk of ice in my hands. That was still stuck to the car the day after driving home from the airport.
