A movie: already suggested once, and I'd love to see it with you and your lovely wife -- Down With Love

A book: Such a hard one! Don't know what you usually read: Hard to go wrong with Illusions by Richard Bach. If you've read that one, I'm enjoying High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. If you want something more cerebral, I've been challenged by The Dancing Wu-Li Masters for the past 3 or 4 years now.

A musical artist: Zoe Lewis. She's a folk-singer who is very kitchy but very good. Or Joni Mitchell, but I'm guessing you've heard her before, and you might not have heard Zoe.

A LJ User not on your list: worldforger, when he posts, he often posts things that are interesting and he's a great guy to know, and you and he would get along very well, I think.

Something to do in the next two months: Come to Vegas with me and my Mom! (jk) Take up pottery. I recommend it to almost anyone.

1. "My Dinner With Andre." Warning: No sex. No explosions. No car chases. Just two guys (Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory) catching up over dinner after a couple of years apart. And it's brilliant, absolutely riveting.

2. Have you read Kij's copy of The Land of Laughs by Jonathan Carroll yet?

3. Laibach's first (1986) CD, "Opus Dei." You will love these guys growling in German to filmic, bombastic music.

4. trollprincess cracks me up. I <3 her. (Up until recently, I thought "<3" meant "asshat." Can you see it?)

5. Spoil a loved one rotten on her birthday.

(your posts lately have really gotten me thinking- space, politics, the world and our connection to what is really out there)

and ok, my solicited opinions...

A movie:
Donnie Darko. Weird, thought provoking, and somehow lovely. (or if you aren't in the mood for an art film- Tank Girl. Oh yeah.)

A book:
A Natural History of the Senses by Diane Ackerman. It is a lot of information about how we perceive, written in an intelligent and poetic way. I read this one slowly, to savor it.

Music:
Beethovens 7th symphony, the Allegretto Section. When that passion is just too contained, douse it with some Rammstein "du hast".

LJ User- You may not have met Mondae. He is funny beyond wise, and a good though distant friend.

Something to do:
Have people over to play games! Whee! :>

1. A movie: Whale Rider, a film from New Zealand about which much has been writtten, but which not nearly enough people have seen. Well writte, beautifully acted. Gives a nice glimpse into the lives of assimilated Aborigines and one youhg girl's struggle to face down tribal myth and tradition, and her grandfather's loyalty to same.
2. A book: Y: the Last Man--vol. 1: Unmanned This is actually a graphic novel from Vertigo and I'm recommending it to you on the strength of The Boyfriend's recommendation to me. I'm starting it today, and it seems so different from my usual fare that I'm spreading the word.
3. A musical artist, song, or album: My tastes are too pedestrian to recommend anything really specialized. When in doubt, go with Dave Matthews Band. The musicianship is to be marveled upon.

5. Something to do in the next two months: Find the nearest zoo and visit it! I have found that during th ewinter months, zoos are emptier than in the summer, and the animals get out a bit more because there are fewer crowds. Also, zoos are a nice way to take a walk, and they remind us that we're part of a bigger world. Do it!
