(Yes, I foolishly watched the Chimp-in-Chief's press conference on CNN this morning. It happens some times.)

When asked if domestic spying was illegal, he answered slippery-ly by saying no, presidential privilege, etc. Then asked directly about whether or not he broke a 1978 law that forbids domestic spying, he said, "that law is from 1978. This is 2006. It's a different world."

Huh, I just learned something new: If a law is more than 28 years old, you can ignore it.

I should go look into this! I bet I could steal cars and claim "Executive Privilege: Hey, the prez is doing it, why can't I?"

Gee-sus. If you're one of the people who elected this man, I hope you're ashamed.

Seriously, though: This is huge. Bush admitted that he doesn't need to obey laws that are only 28 years old. That means he certainly won't see a need to obey laws that are, say, a couple hundred of years old. Or any of the amendments to it. And so on. What a fine example he sets for our children!

This may be the first time a president has ever willingly admitted to performing a impeachable offense.

Your giving him too much credit. The American Public didn't elect him in 2000. He lost the public vote and was placed in his position by other members of the government.

I resent this adminstration, because he makes me feel like a nutbar and conspiracy theorist, but I'm starting to buy into the possibility that he didn't win the 2004 election, either.

From: [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com

Yeah, y'know, when people start saying things about how they're above the law and the Constitution is "just a piece of paper" (see RW's link below), well... those conspiracy theorists are onto something, then, aren't they?

From: [identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com

I keep waiting for people that aren't liberals to get angry about this. Where's the mainstream outrage?

From: [identity profile] gmskarka.livejournal.com

I'm not entirely convinced that he was elected in 2004, either. Too much jiggery-pokery going on in Ohio and other swing states for me to be entirely comfortable.

But, then again, I guess that makes me a tin-foil-hat-wearing looney conspiracy theorist.

LOL
But he doesn't fuck, as far as we know.
Maybe that's the problem.

At least our last elected prez was human.

From: [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com

Oh, please please PLEASE let Congress finally realize this. By "Congress," I mean the body of Congress, not just the Dems.

From: [identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com

You do know there's been a story floating for a while that Bush called the Constitution "just a piece of paper", don't you?

D.

From: [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com

Geez, that's scary stuff. I heard about it but didn't think anything about it; three staffers backing up the story suggests it's true.

A tyrant: That's who's in the White House. Just frickin' scary.

(I recently made this icon but didn't use it because it makes light of Bush; he now seems too creepy to equate with something as cute as a chimp.)

Well...geez...I hate to sound, not only like a broken record, but also a smug bastard, but the guy sorta warned everyone when he "joked":

"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." (transcript is on CNN)

See? Proof that the public is not only herdlike in mentality, but downright insidiously stupid. It seems more and more likely to me that Mussolini's "Strong Man" theory was, uh, right.

How depressing. Anywhere else the people would be flipping out, surrounding the White House, etc. What do we get here? Nods from the church pews.

*sigh*

It's like Cromwell all over again.

Well that settles that. I'm going to go on a thieving spree full of gluttony, lust, and envy while coveting people's wives and being full of pride.

If the 1978 privacy laws are invalid, I suppose the Ten Commandments and the rest of the Bible is REALLY no good anymore.

From: [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com

Oooh, good point about the Ten Commandments!

Let's see:
* He alienated the liberals before he even ran for Prez.
* He alienated the conservatives when he started spending up the wazoo, then alienated them again by mocking the Constitution.
* He alienated the right-wing extremists by backing off some of their religio-political agenda.
* Now he's alienating the centrists by disregarding the law in general.

Hm. Congratulations, Bush voters! You've got a winner! (Oh, wait; I meant "wiener.")

Makes you want to run, since there's apparently no restraints on Bush any longer.

From: [identity profile] secret-malady.livejournal.com

Actually what a fine example he sets for HIS children. How many times has Jenna gotten off the hook for possession of cocaine now? At least as many times as Laura Bush got off the hook for killing one person and injuring another while driving drunk, right?

Mind if I add you as a friend?

From: [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com

No kidding! Yes, feel free to friend me; I'll friend you right now, myself....

[livejournal.com profile] c3fyn said Anywhere else the people would be flipping out, surrounding the White House, etc. What do we get here? Nods from the church pews.

Well as a matter of fact, there is a protest being set up to do just that. On January 31st all over the nation there will be protests to drown out the State of the Union and it's inevitable lies and to demand that BUSH STEP DOWN and take his whole program with him. Then on Feb 4th there will be a mass protest in DC.

Go to World Can't Wait (http://www.worldcantwait.org) and check it out. Read and sign the call. Tell your friends. GO TO THE PROTEST! There's one in your area check the web site.

People keep telling me that it can't happen here. There's no mechanism to unseat a sitting President. All I can say is that it sure ain't gonna happen if we just sit and wait. The Dems can't even make up their minds to filibuster Alito. I sure hope they do, and I hope they take back the house in '06 but I'm not waiting.

We've all seen the signs, we know where we are headed, we can't get off the bus so we need to change drivers NOW.

From: [identity profile] herbmcsidhe.livejournal.com

The problem (if it actually happened) with Bush stepping down is that we would then be left with Cheney, who is just as bad, of not worse. IMO, the sole difference is that Cheney's hand would no longer be manipulating the sockpuppet.

From: [identity profile] loloc.livejournal.com

Just to be clear. We're not asking for just Bush to step down. The whole regieme must go, the whole mind set must be stopped for the sake of the entire planet.

This is not an impechment, this is the struggle to save our democracy and the world by getting rid of the fascists/dictators/kings whatever you want to call them that have taken it over.

From: [identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com

He admitted it weeks ago, at which time I wrote to Dennis Moore and asked when someone was going to impeach this clown. Of course, Cheney needs to be indicted first so he'll resign, but we need to get rid of these monsters.

I also asked Brownback, who is against this warantless spying, whether he was going to vote for Alito, who will only approve of such lawlessness.

There is that Minor Other Detail

The comedy continues, as you know, since Gonzalas's kvetchings before Congress has indicated that the 'leak' has compromised the ongoing 'intelligence operations', and offered aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of 'war like tax break requirement phase'.... without thinking that it was the President who confirmed the initial Leaks, hence, well, Uh, blowing the cover on the well known FISA court system, and, gosh, that would also mean that the president has come out openly offering aid and comfort to the enemy....

So we shall clearly have to work out the other comedy in all of this... Some GOP players were hoping to pass legislation to clean up what ever bogus defects existed in FISA, and the president was clear that there was no need to even try to make his 'offering aid and comfort to the enemy' retroactively legal...

Ah yes, but will americans really care much about this one way or the other?
