So I replaced the station wagon with a pickup truck!
here she is in Manhattan, Kansas, pretty green in the sunshine
And not just any pickup truck, but a lovely "ole truck that we're surely gonna miss" (as the previous owner, Marla, says), a green 1962 Ford F-250 long-bed pickup truck in fine shape. I go pick it up on Friday after taking the KCI Roadrunner van service to Manhattan, Kansas (home of the academic enemy *g*), where Marla will take me to their country house and we'll transfer ownership. Then I drive this newly purchased antique vehicle at least 200 miles home, stopping through Beatrice, Nebraska, on the way home to fetch an aluminum Edelbrock-headed 327 small-block Chevy engine for my 1951 Chevy.

Crazy to drive that far in an old, untested vehicle? Why, yes! Almost as crazy as driving a 1964 Lincoln Continental cross-country in July. But I have AAA Plus, which provides 200 miles of free towing if needed. so I feel pretty confident.

Golly-gee, but isn't it a classic-machine week, Wally!

Top half reminds of my grandpop's old Ford, a faded red with holes in the cushions, all coated in the finest antique dust.

This is a big part of why I love old vehicles: They bring up so many memories. They are so full of history, they breathe it and it makes people smile. Makes me smile, anyway, and those others who've had contact with them before.

Oh, just stop with the cuteness.

There is something just plain darling about that truck. I don't love trucks, but I love that one like a little (green) sugarpie.

[Feel free to express yourself with a little manly throw up. I deserve it for THAT!]

Re: Oh, just stop with the cuteness.

I know! I have needed a hauling vehicle for a long time, and the wagon was pretty good for that, but it wasn't terribly reliable, and it sucked gas like a waterfall sucks water, and it couldn't haul anything taller than 22" or so, and and and.

I've never been a "truck guy," never owned one before, but I sure think this one is durn purty.

Oh, oops, forgot the manly throw-[down] (I assume you meant, not the cookie-tossing image I got):

To which she says: SCHOOL TIME! (A late start, to say the least.)

I love that icon. Laughing IS good.

You just can't be one of those people who collect cute quirky things that are easy to store and display, can ya? No. You have to collect things that weigh half a ton and have lots of itsy bitsy moving parts...

(On the other hand, I think I had a truck much like that in mind when I wrote my latest published short story. Only mine was red.)

Heck no! Though, wait, I do now have quite a collection of Magic cards. And a respectable quantity of car parts in the garage. And a few hundred MechWarrior minis in the glass cabinet in the living room. And about 200 games. And... um, never mind *g*

You'll have to borrow it some time for a drive: Research for your next story!

from the photo, that truck is in remarkably good shape, considering it was manufactured during the kennedy administration. still - i hope you don't have to use that AAA Plus towing option. what a pain.

I was surprised by the condition, too! Only some surface rust on the hood and tailgate, wow! I'm guessing it only did duty in the country where it saw no salt for the last FOUR DECADES.

Yeah, I'm hoping the same re: towing... wish me luck.

SWEET!~

That looks a lot like the truck we use to haul the Queens around on St Pat's day. (I believe it resides in the alley behind 900 block of Maine st).

What a great find!

Thank you! So I'll have to take you for a spin while waving from the back as we drive along Mass. St. some time for nostalgia's sake *g* (and WOW was that a lot of prepositions).
