SF helps save the world, one person at a time

From Jim Gunn:

Ronald Moore, contributor to STAR TREK and writer of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, explains how STAR TREK (and SF, presumably) helped create his values in this article.

Best,
Chris

That's kinda cool - you mean in this view, not the friends view, right? The bars go over Kirk's face because I did a right-align of the image.

I stumbled across that one yesterday and enjoyed every word of it. I posted a link for the KDL crowd, but no one has commented on it yet. I was exposed to Star Trek at the tender age of 3, and it had a profound influence on the shaping of my worldview. Although I've seen most of the episodes of Classic Trek dozens of times as a teenager, I rewatched them again recently with my jaded adult eyes. Roddenberry truly pulled off a coup for his time -- political and social commentary disguised as sci-fi adventure which has endured and influenced legions.

This:

"We’re human beings, with the blood of a million savage years on our hands. But we can stop it. We can admit that we’re killers, but we won’t kill today."

Is a fantastic quote! thanks!

Yes, that stuck with me, too!
