Around this area, there's really only one reliable news source: KCUR public radio. They're the NPR from the University of Missouri-Kansas City; I wish I could say that the Lawrence NPR station was my source, but they're one of those stations that mostly plays classic music when I want news and information. So it's KCUR for me.

I just made a pledge, and I recommend it to you, too: For the $60 pledge, you get a 2-for-1 special card that will save you as much as it costs... and you're helping a worthy cause. So pledge now! (Plus, the sooner we help them meet their goals, the sooner they'll stop the fund drive.)

Best,
Chris

Hey, they just read my name on air! Wheee!

Okay, that's just cute.

Interesting that you say that. Though they could use more business news, I find the local news on the Lawrence station to be far better than KCUR's.

Nice thing about have three NPR stations within range, is jumping between them during Morning Edition & All Things Considered, to find the one that isn't on a pledge break.

You're right about the local news, but there's so little news on the KU station that I find myself almost never even checking. The music they play usually isn't something I like, yet that's most of their playlist. Feh.

I'm with you. It's KCUR for me. Except for this week, when I'm best buds with my Hello Kitty FM broadcaster and my iPod. ;-)

Hi there. Visiting via [livejournal.com profile] jaylake's LJ. I was a student operator at KCUR during the Early Middle Period of the 70s. Nothing like it is today. I have no idea how they got their money back then, but I don't recall any pledge drives. All the public stations do 'em today. It was cool to have a Reuters teletype on premises -- very different news source than AP (which they also had). Met many interesting people there, including Edie McClurg, who is now a semi-famous character actress (best known as secretary in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"). Lots and lots of classical music back in the day. Okay, thanks for letting me wax nostalgic.
