mckitterick: (Vote hippie!)

And it felt good, mostly... I miss The Stranger's Voting Cheat Sheet. I mean, did anyone locally get one of those Voter's Guides? I didn't, and there were lots of things I couldn't cast a vote for, dammit. I mean, who the hell are those judges, and should they be retained or not? Political appointees, perhaps, but by whom? None of them have an R or D or L next to them, so they act as if they're non-political, but we all know how the current Republican regime has been running a national campaign to install activist judges favorable to their causes.

So, irritating, but at least I got to vote for the politicians.

Get out there, and don't get surprised by your ignorance as I did: Find those voter's guides!

PS: I got a political call on my cell-phone from 866-849-3243 for some attorney general or something, maybe named Larry? I don't answer my phone during the day ($0.40 a minute) unless I know the person and am near my phone, so I waited to hear the message. How the hell did they get my cell number? It's not listed! And it's on the Do Not Call list. I wonder if political parties are allowed access to the DNCL and use it to call people.

I have been getting bombarded with political calls on all 3 of my phone lines for months. It's my understanding that polical types (along with nonprofits and Those With Whom I've Had A Business Relationship) are not covered by DNC rules. Bah.

Yes, political calls are exempt from the Do Not Call list. I love Rhode Island, which bannned robocalls from the DNC list. That is where the Republicans are in trouble for their calls -- and no more than they deserve.

I didn't get a voter's guide either.

Then I realized all the websites I normally frequent are CA-specific.

I spent over an hour reading opinions for the judges. I couldn't find any cheat sheets for that part. I still have no real clue who they are on any important issues. Car wreck cases, WBC cases (nothing good), other crap.

I also found mention (http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=17346140&BRD=1459&PAG=461&dept_id=155728&rfi=6) of a poll by the JoCo Bar Association where supposedly local lawyers supported retaining all judges. Eh. LJ-World didn't have much to say about it.

So yeah, I was completely clueless. Our super in-the-political-know guy at work didn't know anything either, so I felt slightly better (or is that slightly worse?).

I HEART the Stranger's Voting Cheat Sheet. Yeah! I pretty much vote straight through. I used to read their endorsements, now I don't even have to bother doing that.

Our phone has been ringing constantly with recorded messages. Bill Clinton has called a bunch of times. At first I got all excited and thought maybe we could do lunch or something and talk about Hilary's campaign strategy, but no. He was just a recording. Yesterday there were 4 calls in the first half hour I was awake. I did not appreciate. They reached a new low when they started having candidates' wives record whiny messages about what great guys their husbands were and how misunderstood. Ha. The Sparrowhawk just got a Blackberry for work a few days ago, and they already had his number.

The funniest thing was a flyer the Republican State Senate candidate sent us, warning that his opponent, if elected, would LEGALIZE MARIJUANA and also spend more money on social programs like education and health care! Egads! Save our children from this monster! Wow. I seriously considered voting for her twice.

RE: cheet sheet - How would anyone else know how I want to vote on everything? I'm hoping that goes along with an article that explains why they pick x over Y

From: [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com

Right; there's a long article that goes in-depth on each issue and candidate.
