So it's down to three Senate races - Montana, Missouri, and Virginia - and the Dems are leading in all of these. But only barely.

A nail-biter, but AT FREAKING LAST it's one with hope attached! I can't tell you how excited this makes me. For the last several election cycles, I've felt like this wasn't my country, that insane bastards had been granted power by people who also lived in this country but whom I'd never met and certainly couldn't understand; when they elected Bush, I thought they must be aliens. I mean, what kind of fool would buy the Neocon dog-and-pony show? Well, apparently people have discovered that the Neocons were taking their money and selling them shit. And it wasn't good.

We have regained control of our country. At long last I feel like I'm not an alien, and that this could well be my country again. It's not about Democratic victory; it's about NOT handing the keys back to drunk drivers.

It is exciting to see the House return to the Ds after 12 years of crazy spending sprees and weird legislation, but the hard truth is that they don't have a veto-proof majority.

They can set the terms of debate, and force W to veto a lot of popular measures, but they can't actually PASS anything without some cooperation. And that's the difference: the Rs could pass any insane budget full of pork, because there's never been a veto in last 6 years.

Just trying to keep some perspective. I'm still breaking out the good cheer. Ok, "you're giddy" says Shelly.

True 'dat. But if the Repubs and Neocons continue to try to ruin our country, at least now those who used to support them will see through their ploys because they no longer have absolute power. Yay! Yes, I was giddy too.

Oh, I am right there with ya, Chris. SO f'n happy AND relieved. Heh-- and still watching CNN here, too! ^^ I'm still holding my breath just a bit to see how this is gonna end up playing out in the days/months/several years ahead, but yes.. For the first time in a long time, I have hope that the US may NOT be in the process of self-destructing. Hallelujah!!
