global warming: two new happy milestones!

Hey, folks, just what you've been waiting for! Happy-happy fun-fun proof of global warming and its effects on humanity. Good times!

From jaylake, a new story about how human habitation begins to sink beneath the waves. Your friend, global warming, in action. (I want someone to create a cute, cuddly GW incarnation, like the Sta-Puf man but warmer.) Soon everyone will have a beach house!

And a story about how the Arctic ice is vanishing due to accelerating global warming. Yay! Let's get rid of all that damned ice. Brrrr!

To all those out there who've been taken in by the conservatives whose heads are buried in desert sand: Dudes, no matter what the fundies say, the world does indeed change, and it's changing in a way right now that does not suit human habitation. And science? You know, that empirical process whose reality you deny? Well, it's giving you some data. Feel free to ignore it and all, but when it starts to affect me and those I care about, I no longer accept your chosen ignorance. Time to get them out of positions of polical power, people, even if you are a fundie yourself. Seriously, I no longer respect your views if your denying reality gets in the way of saving the world.

I've always believed that Ma Earth has been around much longer than any creature on her, and that if she grows tired of humanity changing her cosmetics, she'll just shake us off like so many fleas.

I hope to keep enjoying her beauty before that happens.

Aha, you've been sucked in to the whole FOX "news" brainwashing, dude! The link you sent me to is a different island. Don't trust the big media news sources, man; they're all owned by the rich & powerful and have personal interest in making us believe things that are not true.

Okay, so now you see it! The BBC news is pretty un-slanted:

"In the Sundarbans, the rising sea level and soil erosion threaten to submerge large swathes of land, making thousands more homeless."

And I don't think your news sources can discount the Arctic melting. Or do they try?

Here's a favorite global warming story.

Partner M. and I took an Alaskan cruise in September of 2005. One of the stops of the cruise ship was near a federal park built near a glacier -- sorry, can't recall which one. We (along with thousands of our closest friends) visited the nearby Visitor Center, where there was a wealth of material outlining where the glacier had been, where it is now, how fast it is receding, etc. But nothing about **what is causing this phenomenon**.

I walked up to a Ranger and asked "Is this caused by Global Warming?" Her response spoke volumes: "Sir, we are not permitted to respond to that question." M. and I just looked at her, looked at each other, and shook our heads.

As a Texan, I'm all for getting rid of winter.
And as Kansans, we can bring the ocean to us!
