Here's hopeful news: The Senate subpoenaed the White House and Vice President Dick Cheney's office Wednesday, demanding documents and elevating the confrontation with President Bush over the administration's warrant-free eavesdropping on Americans.

Does this mean that the Senate has grown a spine at last? That they finally realize they're part of a "checks and balances" system after a term and a half of amnesia? Does this signal a return to Constitutionality in the White House? Do I see a glimmer of hope for our country?

Perhaps, but I won't hold my breath until it goes through. Expect the Bushies to stonewall past the end of their term, and expect the corporate media (I like [livejournal.com profile] gmskarka's term) to phrase things in the language of partisan politics rather than what this is: the last thrashing of an administration attempting to convert the US to a Fascist state.

Good luck, everyone, and let's hope this leads to something good. I do feel a litle optimistic, because this action by the Senate sounds a little like the failure of Fascism in America.

Best,
Chris

Hi folks -

How many of you are going to the combo event in Kansas City's Crown Center next weekend (July 6-7-8)?

Another question: Can anyone give [livejournal.com profile] fireguarder a ride on Friday morning?

See ya there!

Best,
Chris
