Wow, but does my little Crossfire not like the ice and snow. At all. Took me more time to drive to the grocery store than if I'd walked, and I ended up sideways across the streets a couple of times.

Okay, so maybe no driving until things get nice again. I actually don't feel like taking the scooter out in this, either. Funny how such a thin layer of sleet (less than an inch) can make one immobile, but in a city where they don't sand or salt the roads, it might as well be a foot of ice.

You live in the mid west. Invest in studded tires. :)

They are illegal almost everywhere now -- they tear up the roads.

Maybe not studded, but something sturdier, with a better grip? I'm afraid the word "stud" in conjunction with the red Crossfire is just too attractive, law or no law.

I remember when we lived on Orchard Lane, not far from the Gunn house, and there was an ice storm. I thought, oh, fun--we can't drive, so I'll go outside and talk a walk in the sparkling fairyland of ice. Heh. I laughed at all the cars spinning sloooowly and helplessly until they drifted into a curb, and at their drivers' bug-eyed dismay. Then I tried to walk. . . . I, too, slid slowly, helplessly, down the hill until I fetched up against a tree and stopped myself. I ended up skittering home on hands and knees. Gives real meaning to the phrase, "hog on ice."

Heh, there's an image *g* I think the big problem with the Crossfire is that its wheels are SO WIDE and the tire compound is made for stickiness (hard when cold). That and it's a light car with rear-wheel drive. Oh, and it's frickin' ICY out there *g*

I've seriously thought of getting a spare set of wheels & tires for winter driving. After tonight, I think it's in the cards.

Yeah, the roads around Seattle are pretty rough from all the studded tires, even though they're much kinder to the pavement than the studs of old.

Just got studs on the Miata -- works great! I live at the end of a 12-14% grade, and it's really icy right now, but with a gentle toe on the throttle little red Vivian just climbed the hill and hauled me home.

So... you bought the wrong car for where you live? Or just have the wrong tires? FR is notorious for oversteering issues, particular in non-dry conditions. On the other hand, you can practice drifting with all the import-culture kids.

Lightweight car with rear-wheel drive? Not surprising. I hated my years of rear-wheel drive in the winter.

I don't think they will try to sand anything (thank goodness they don't salt) until after Sunday since we have a possibility of more sleet and snow today, and a winter storm watch all day tomorrow.

Great! Hooray for studded tires on a light, rear-drive car.

I grew up driving rear-drivers in the winter in Minnesota, but the stock wheels & tires are SO wide that they don't get any grip. Time for a spare set of winter wheels. Perhaps those tall Blizzard-tread tires. On the Crossfire. Heh heh.

"A possibility," eh? Look outside. Crap.

Time for some winter studs on my lil' Crossfire.

They are legal in Kansas only from November 1 - April 1.

Oh, cool! That would be perfect for a set of winter tires. I needs to get myself some, thanks!

Yup. They are legal in Kansas from November 1 - April 1.

I had studded tires on a 1975 Toyota Corolla, and it climbed Mt. Oread on the 9th Street side just fine for years.
