Today, [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit and J. stopped by just as I was replacing the oil filter on the pickup truck. We talked about it for a while, I re-tightened the oil-filter cover (okay, now I understand why most cars don't use those any more: tricky to line it up against the seal), and she decided she wanted it!

It's been a good pickup, having hauled literally tons of stuff for me over the past year without requiring a lot of maintenance. I did rebuild the carburetor and install a battery shut-off, and it could use some updates, but it worked super as-is as my haulin' vehicle. Here's my post from the day I picked it up. Here's a photo:

So I'm down to only three cars, and perhaps soon down to only two. Wow! That'll be the fewest in a long time.

So long, charming pickup truck! I hope you enjoy it, [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit!

Best,
Chris

She will look extra fabulous driving that around! Hooray! Nice to know it's going to a good home.

That picture is really evocative of days gone by, and shows a lot of character in the truck. I love all the green in the photo.

Yes, I was charmed when I saw that pickup for sale on eBay. The background is perfect for it: That farm is where it served as a work-truck for nine years.

So, I'm just wondering after the little red convertible, you know, the practical car, is this the impractical truck? Looks practical to me. Oh, silly me. I didn't realize you needed a practical convertible, and a practical car, and a practical truck, and a pracitical bike and a practical starship and .... :P

Ooooh, where can I get a practical starship? I've been needing one of those!

Yes, the pickup has been practical for hauling stuff, but I've already built the carport and don't really need to own a big ol' pickup for as little as I use it.

Congrats for selling it, and more for keeping it "in the family". I'm sure she'll put it to good use.

Yes, I was really glad to send it home with a friend rather than a stranger!

I can totally see her looking like the usual gorgeous badass behind the wheel of that spectacular green machine. Congrats to the both of you on this fine hand off!

I know how it feels to lose a truck like that. To this day I still miss my 1962 GMC Fleetside pickup. It looked a lot like this one but had the 305 V6 (no C you can't have it to replace yours because people would stop talking to me if you did).

Some cool things about that motor was that the sparkplugs were on the top inside with the intake manifold wrapped around them and there was so much room inside the hood you had to climb in to work on the engine.

I still dream of getting another one someday.

Yeah, I was starting to miss it already, too, and actually Rae decided an old truck wasn't right for her, so I'm getting it back. So no regrets! It was meant to be mine *g*

On the other hand, that means I really have to sell the Chevy, because I like having all my vehicles under the carport or in the garage.

What an inspiring picture--the pickup truck facing into the sun, a little battered yet green and hopeful . . . . In the immortal words of Robert Heinlein, "come on, you apes! Do you want to live forever?" And the green pickup truck answers, "why yes, Bob! I believe I do! Want to ride with me?"

From: [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com

That's great - I can hear it saying that. By the way, as it turns out I'll be keeping it; Rae decided an old truck was a little too much for her. So I get to hear it telling me that!
