Okay, this is starting to feel a little like grading-avoidance, but what the heck. Another pic, this time of me with James Gunn and the two science fiction awards the Center for the Study of Science fiction gives out each year during the Campbell Conference. This is too fun, all "science-fictiony" according to the Lawrence Journal-World reporter who took this shot:

On the left is the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for best SF novel of the year; on the right is the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award for best SF story of the year. If you follow the links you can see the new trophies that winners get to take home, starting last summer (design by [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson).

I'll try to post more pics as I remember to do so!

Best,
Chris

I see you chose this angle to make the trophies than life. You should have put your arm out as though you had your arm around it.

Fail them all. That'll teach them to turn things in over a holiday.

Oooh, now THERE's a notion! Unfortunately, it's my own damned fault.

Who is teaching this class, you or them? If they were actually any good at this, they would have gotten it done first thing, no?

Looks great, Chris!

By the way, do let me know what I can do for the Center. I'm plotting out my next few months right now, and I'd be glad to begin scheduling time for Center-related stuff if that'd help you guys!

It saddens me to realize that I'm more jealous of you for hanging out with James Gunn than hanging out with CR and Kij.

I really must be a geek, despite my oh-so-suave exterior.

Heh. Nothing odd there, sir. I got my graduate degree here many years ago because he convinced me to do so, and I moved back here two years ago largely because of him. He's a kind and wonderful man, the only true gentleman I've ever met, and I strive to be as much like him in those ways as I can be!

The man I lived with when I went to KU, got his B.A. in English. He did a writing specialization under James Gunn (we were in school from 1982 to 1986...around when the Center was set up and Steve took every class offered that he taught during that period).

He was always so very cool to Steve.

Me too! I came here only to take a summer writers' workshop from him, then he convinced me to stay for my MA because he was retiring. I took only classes from Jim Gunn for that year (all of the classes he taught), then went back and took my other English coursework and my earlier prereq's that I'd skipped to take his courses. I basically have an MA in Jim Gunn; pretty cool.

He helped me with many things, including relationships (imagine - with two generations separating us). Wonderful man. I want him to live forever, healthy.

Best,
Chris
