Awww, what cute little squeaky toys! Here's where I get to be pedantic and say they're not ground squirrels but are relatives of the rabbit! I think we should make them honorary ground squirrels, though, because of their appearance.
Serendipitously, I was watching Planet Earth tonight, the Great Plains episode, and they showed pikas! And here's something even more odd for you: In my library of weasel books, there's one called "One Day on Pika's Peak" which is the photo story of how a mother short-tailed weasel goes hunting in pika territory to feed her eight kits! The photos are fantastic. It's sad for the pikas and voles and deer mice, but the kits have to eat.
