Just learned something neat about funding the Emergency Medical Fund for SFWA, the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America organization: You don't need to be a member of the organization in order to donate to the EMF. The site has a donations page. It uses PayPal, so it's quick and easy - I just made a donation, and it only took about 10 seconds.

[livejournal.com profile] willshetterly writes, "I've let my SFWA membership lapse, but I hope to help the EMF until the US has universal health care." Help a writer without insurance pay for unforeseen medical bills by building this account (it's not a give-away but instead offers interest-free loans to those in need).

Good news!

Best,
Chris

To me it's extremely wierd that Bailey is among the dinosaurs on the issue of electronic media. I suppose that once in e-format, things are easier to pirate. But the Baen model suggests that once a thing is out there as an e-book, its sales increase enormously becaause people want their tree copies even though they have read something sitting at the terminal.

I'm only missing a couple of things in hardcopy that I bought in e-copy ... mostly stuff that is still hardback (and I am still job hunting).

Well, to be fair, he's not the President responsible for the current conflict.

Good luck on the job hunting!

Didn't suggest he was the SFWA perp. I merely think that his attitude toward e-text is extremely odd given how forward-looking he usually is.

...or any SF writer, for that matter. We'll have to hear him defend his Luddite self! *g*
