Who should you support for US Prez '08?

To find out, take this quiz. It's very well-designed, matching the issues you care about to candidates. Each issue has a link to more information; you select whether or not you support each issue (or choose Unsure), then rate them High / Medium / Low in importance. You also get to select who you're planning to vote for; I did not do that, because, well, who knows at this point? At the end, viola! Here's your perfect candidate.

My top match (of course, because I never match a winner):
Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich (D) - 93.10% match

Others, in order of maching-ness:
Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel (D) - 84.48%
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) - 72.41%
New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) - 68.97%
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D) - 67.24%
Delaware Senator Joseph Biden (D) - 65.52%
Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) - 65.52%
Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd (D) - 62.07%
Texas Representative Ron Paul (R) - 41.38%
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) - 31.03%
Arizona Senator John McCain (R) - 24.14%
Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson (R) - 22.41%
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) - 20.69%
Businessman John Cox (R) - 13.79%

"Bottom of the barrel," as they say:
Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo (R) - 13.79%
Kansas Senator Sam Brownback (R) - 3.45%
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R) - 2.59%
California Representative Duncan Hunter (R) - 0.00%

I don't think I've ever had a purely 0% match before. Golly. Hunter must be pure spawn of the devil.

Who's your match? Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit for the link.

Arrrrr, matey! (almost forgot to add that in honor of today's the day)
Chris

I like that they also provide links to check out the candidates sites.

Indeed! It's a really nice quiz. Thanks!

Hunter must be pure spawn of the devil.

Or you are. =D

Hey now! If you saw my choices, well, let's just say that I have the feeling Mr. Satan would select other than I. Of course, his child might be a rebel....

You and Hunter, sittin' in a tree....

[identity profile] chernobylred.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kinda wonder on that one! I dunno...gun control issues, maybe?

[identity profile] gmskarka.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinda depressing that you have less than 4% in common with the man who represents you in the Senate.

(Same here, not surprisingly.)

Even more depressing is the fact that despite Kucinich scoring so highly among everyone I know (myself included), there's no way that he'd ever get the nomination. It's gotten so bad, that we have trained ourselves that we can't vote for the ones we agree with, because we know they'd never win.

Broken. The whole system.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't want to think about that too much. He doesn't represent me.

Yup, it's stupid that we can't get Kucinich. The Dem party would just pooh-pooh that, so we all accept it and end up voting for someone with barely above 50% match.

But at least that's better than the other party's top choice at 31% match (and no, I don't count Ron Paul as a Republican, and neither do they).

My matches

[identity profile] renegade500.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Top Match
Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich (D) 93.75% match
Other Top Matches

You'll notice Duncan Hunter doesn't even appear on my list, so he must be less than 0 for me.

Ha! I wonder how you get lower than 0%?

Again, a Kucinich supporter. Tell me again: Why isn't he the front-runner of the Dems?

Hey in my fantasy world, I can make math work for me (like vet bills only cost $90 instead of $900). :-)

So the thing with Kucinich is that I haven't really considered myself a supporter of his, and I'm surprised at the match up between what I find important and what he finds important. I suspect this is true for others as well. Sure Kucinich is good for the Bill Maher cicuit, but the White House? (I'm not saying that's what I think, but I suspect it is what a lot of people think.)

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
The list isn't accurate, as it doesn't have the name of the next president of the United States on it:

KEYES '08, BITCHES!

I found some of the questions a bit disingenuous. I support the existance of a military base at Gitmo, but I don't support the use of the base as a prison camp. I don't support an assault weapon ban, as I own an assault weapon; however, I believe that there should be stringent checks (should've taken a month, not an hour, for my background check) and that there should be a public list of firearm owners available online and at police stations showing who's packing what and where they live. I believe in free trade, but I think there should be controls on it.

I find it interesting that free trade and assault weapons were enough to toss a few of the Rs into my middle of the path. I'll definitely have to watch this Mike Gravel fellow.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you go ahead and support Keyes. Oh, wait; I only want Republicans to support him, because that way we can be sure not to get another Repub in office. Heh.

I hear you about the questions, which is why I like that you can customize it so much: Rank something Low if it doesn't fit quite right.

[identity profile] cmt2779.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Kucinich is, of course, my number one. Has been since before the last election. It actually really pisses me off that so many people agree with his ideas (ideas he has worked for and actively supported, not just talked about) but refuse to vote for him. It pisses me off that people are so fucking cowardly that they won't act on their beliefs and support someone who will work for those beliefs, instead preferring to vote for someone who only represents half of their beliefs. It pisses me off that the only real coverage he gets in the popular media consists of people making fun of the way he looks.

I think Kucinich really could be a good leader, if everyone else in the world weren't so damn shallow. We don't need a president who *looks* like a leader or postures like one. We need a president who will actually lead, and ethically. One of the things I admire most about Kucinich is his willingness to do what is right, even when it's hard, as illustrated by his political history. As mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, he acted on his beliefs and in the interests of his constituents even though it meant going against big business and people with power and meant losing his position. He had the strength and surety to do what was right even though it cost him personally. That is what we need in a president.

*grr*

Sorry. I got a little carried away. I plan to vote for Kucinich. And then, when he inevitably doesn't make it past the primaries because not enough other people have voted for him, I'll take the damn quiz again and see who's left.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Speak it, sister!

For me, the top Dems after Kucinich are 25% or more less of a match. Wow. That's depressing.

[identity profile] gryphonrose.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. Gravel and Kucinich were reversed for me, but otherwise we had the same top four.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2007-09-20 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Y'know, I never heard of Gravel before I took this test. Makes me interested in him!

[identity profile] ericreynolds.livejournal.com 2007-09-20 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. Kucinich. Very interesting. Of the posts above that list their results, Kucinich seems to be the one. And a lot people I talk to say, "Yeah, I love him, but he's not going to win." And I say, "Would you just not worry about who's going to win and vote for who you WANT to win?"

Here's mine:

Top Match
Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich (D) - 90.54% match

The Rest
New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) - 70.27%
Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel (D) - 69.59%
Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) - 68.24%
Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd (D) - 65.54%
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) - 64.86% [surprised he's not higher]
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D) - 63.51%
Delaware Senator Joseph Biden (D) - 62.16%
Texas Representative Ron Paul (R) - 42.57%
Arizona Senator John McCain (R) - 25.68%
Businessman John Cox (R) - 22.30%
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) - 22.30%
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) - 19.59%
Kansas Senator Sam Brownback (R) - 12.16% [I'm surprise he's this high]

Bottom of the barrel
Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson (R) - 11.49%
Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo (R) - 9.46%
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R) - 6.76%
California Representative Duncan Hunter (R) - 2.70%

I hear ya. How does this "conventional wisdom" actually come about? I mean, did they think that way back when Lincoln was running? I think not.

[identity profile] sf-reader.livejournal.com 2007-09-20 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I found it interesting that (for me) Hillery is the closest thing to a Republican.

Also that 4 of the 5 of us had Mike Gravel as #1 or #2. Know nothing about him.

Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel 87.80% match

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D) - 80.49%
Delaware Senator Joseph Biden (D) - 75.61%
Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) - 75.61%
Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich (D) - 73.17%
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) - 70.73%
Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd (D) - 69.51%
New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) - 65.85%
Texas Representative Ron Paul (R) - 50.00%
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) - 46.34%
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) - 41.46%
Arizona Senator John McCain (R) - 41.46%
Kansas Senator Sam Brownback (R) - 31.71%
Businessman John Cox (R) - 31.71%

Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson (R) - 30.49%
Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson (R) - 26.83%
Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo (R) - 21.95%
California Representative Duncan Hunter (R) - 17.07%

That's fascinating about Hillary. Also, yeah, who is this fascinating-sounding guy from Alaska?
