What is that thing (warning: link takes you to the movie trailer)? Godzilla? I thought so when I saw the first teaser during... some movie in the summer. Chtulu? The squishy noises suggest the possibility. Giant alien monster? Glimpses of something between the buildings in one scene and something beside Brooklyn Bridge in another suggest something that looks very different from Godzilla. Giant robot? I played a portion of that scene beside the bridge several times, and it sure looks mechanical.

Can't wait! Big, dumb monster movie in January, w00t!

I think it's name is Noriko

I think that the monster is a mutated version of Noriko Yashida. Go here (a viral marketing website for Cloverfield), and click on the fifth bead from the left (History).

*g*

That would be unexpected: Giant cutesy Japanamation icons gone wild!

Ahr j00 keeding? There's NO WAY AVP2 will be decent. I'll eat a lummox if I'm wrong.

I'm not counting on decent. I'm counting on a gore-heavy splatterfest with lots of good special effects and more than a few crazy explosions.

Well, then. In that case, you'll prolly do just fine...

To bad they didn't just adapt the AVP comic.

I have no comment at this time Senator.

Looks very interesting indeed. :-)

I just don't know if I can handle that much handheld cam action. The preview made me dizzy.

The preview was during Transformers. It's J.J. Abrams next film I believe,

There's another theory I like better: that the monster is actually a macguffin, and that the movie is actually about human reactions in the face of danger: Stay, or run? Find your friends, or every man for himself? And maybe human rights versus military force?

Mechanical? Squishy? I vote Mecha-Cthulhu as the awesome option.
