Here's how to make ethanol in an environmentally sensible and renewable way that doesn't compete with food (which drives up prices while harming poor countries): Use biological waste materials! The cool thing is that this company is a partner with GM, which plans to put a huge number of "Flex-Fuel" vehicles on the road.

Our energy future is looking less dire.

Best,
Chris

Yeah, well they could also quit making high fructose corn syrup, too. Beet sugar, cane sugar, and fructose from some fruits is more than enough. The whole pineapple crop could be devoted to sugar making for all of me, but using corn is killer.

Digesting cellulose to make ethanol is considerably more difficult than digesting starch into ethanol. It's good that companies are trying to make it practical, but it's a challenge.
