Here's possibly the coolest thing to happen this year:

I just think anyone who plans a colonization of Mars should probably read those books. =D

But yeah, a lot of the aspects they discuss are similar, especially the mention of eco-protesters who disagree with the over development of the planet.

I loved this: "Google now stores a full copy of the Internet on Mars"

You and me both. Fortunately, I both love the taste of spirulina in the morning and feel a calm determination to vanquish the unknown.

See you on Mars!

...and don't forget the drive to increase the Martian population. It's our duty, man. The things we do for our nation-planet....

I think [livejournal.com profile] sdemory's got a big head start on you in that arena, buddy.

Indeed. Fortunately, the Demory seed produces multiples. Thus, I'm ready to do my part to create a new breed of Martians.

If you do a search on You Tube for Virgle, you can see some of the video responses that people have posted. Some of them are entertaining, especially the effeminate gentleman with the glow in the dark teeth who thinks he's already from Mars.

Dammit, until I read those comments I was totally stoked to try to make it to Mars. Stupid April Fool's.

It shouldn't be tomfoolery! We should be doing this! And people like Branson are exactly the type of people who would be behind it.

Totally agreed. Me forgot about April Fools. Rawr.

Mars would be so awesome..... but I think I'm too much of a groundhog to go, anyway. Le sigh.

I know - all it takes is money and will.

I think it's obvious that we have the will; just look at all the people who wanted to be part of Virgle.

The money we've spent on the war in Iraq? That could have established a colony on Mars.

Coolest April Fool ever. The thing is, the people behind it make it a fairly credible joke.
