Near the western horizon, you'll see an amazing sight: Venus, Jupiter, and the crescent Moon in an almost-equilateral triangle! Wow!

EDIT: Here's a great shot of it from the National Geographic Society:

Nice - I saw 'em through my helmet visor, too. The drawback of riding vs. driving a convertible is that it's tougher to look up at the stars.

I know, I know! Me and the girls are rather excited about it.

Yes, we were looking at it on the ride home from picking my older girl up from my parents.

The littler one (4 in February) kept asking, "Are they out in space?"

Me: "Yes, lovely space. Which has the lovely planets."

Fruitpie: "Can we go out in space? Without a rocket?"

Me: "No, baby. We can't go out in space without a rocket. Someday you might go into space, though."

The bigger one was suitably impressed as well. She wanted to know which one was Jupiter. I said I didn't know; that if we had some binoculars we could've found out.

"What kind of binoculars?"

"Oh, any old kind. That's how close they are."

"Whoa!"

Can you believe it's foggy here in NH? After snowing yesterday and warming up today, I can just barely see the crescent moon, and the stars that I've been eyeing all week are invisible. Bah!

Here, it's been hit-and-miss, but luckily I was able to show my students right before class started.

I've seen it the last few nights, but it was so clear hear last night that it was a spectacular sight! The weatherman even did a little bit on it last night on the news.

I'm so glad that even the weatherfolk were promoting its viewing. I showed my students before class started.

Jupiter! That was the other one. I couldn't for the life of me remember that last night. It was so beautiful to see. It really made me wish I had a camera!

I've added a photo from the National Geographic Society. Beautiful!

I hate to point this out... but aren't Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon always in a triangle?

:P

Hardee har har ;-)

Actually, every once in a very rare while, they line up. Technically, a line is a form of triangle with zero-degree angles....

I saw this on the way to rehearsal last night and tried not to wreck for staring. Thanks for the heads up.
