So over the last week or two I've...

Gone through the final edit/review stages of eleven (11) online documents for the upcoming Windows Server 2003 Technical Reference, written half of two other docs (completing them), revised them both per edits, and more-or-less wrote another one.

Oh, and some encouraging news in this arena: I just learned that I got the following Society for Technical Communication (STC) awards for contributions to the following projects:

Award of Merit, "Implementing Common Desktop Management Scenarios" (writer), User Support Tools competition.

Award of Merit, Windows Server 2003 Online Help (contributing writer), Online Communications competition.

Award of Excellence, Windows Server 2003 Deployment Kit (contributing writer), Software Guides competition.

That's the tech-writing part of my life. The teaching:

Updated the class website and syllabus, wrote all the students re: what they'll need before class starts (tomorrow), wrote my "yearly faculty self-evaluation," pitched the Technical Communications Certificate program before the Dean and all, revised the proposal for said Certificate, and other stuff I can't recall.

And I shoveled the sidewalks along our half of the block today.

Sometimes I feel like I'm not getting enough done, but that looks pretty productive, don'tcha think?

Best,
Chris

Yes, I think you can be secure in the knowledge that you are not a slacker. Nor is your wife. You guys are crazy sometimes.

Me? I'm sitting in the slacker corner waiting for this damn cold to bugger off.

Congrats on the awards. Now go get some for your non-techy writing!

Ja, I oughta get to some fiction-ing. I did turn in my current novel to my local writer's group; that oughta count!

Quite productive indeed. Congrats on the awards; you should indulge in some sort of mini-celebration, at least with your trio.

Congratulations! Way to go on the awards. You deserve them. As always, this sounds like a fantastic opportunity for...FOOD!!!

Congrats on the award. It makes me feel lazy just reading everything you've been doing. Hope that you are all ice free soon.

You know, it's odd; I've been feeling lazy because I always felt behind. I think we all feel lazy, whether or not it bears any relation to reality!

Wow!

So did you know your work was being submitted to the competitions? Did you even know there were competitions? Do you get something for your achievements, like a plaque or a raise? Seeing as how the Oscars are hoving into view, would you write us a little acceptance speech for your awards? You know, thanking your mom and dad and agent and God and all the Little People who made it possible?

Don't let the Evil Empire forget your studliness for even a second.

Re: Wow!

I knew the white paper was being submitted (I was the only writer on that one), but the other two were surprises. Especially getting top honors for the Deployment Kit -- now it's off to international competition!

Benies from it...? Well, I do get a pretty certificate. And it looks nice on the resume and yearly performance review (reminds me, I should add that...).

Acceptance speech. Hmmm. Well, I think you did a great job there. I would also thank James Gunn for teaching me all about science fiction... oh, wait, wrong genre. I might add something about the pain and suffering inflicted by editors, but not where one of them might read it >g< Perhaps thank Kij for... oh, never mind >G<
