So I got the garage door fixed - now I can open and close it without an assistant. That was fun. And I can even use the powered opener! W00t!

All for the low, low price of a hundred bucks and one hour of my time (more irritating than the moola, but I didn't dare deal with a garage-door spring without watching someone else do it first).

I'm pretty sure those garage door springs have turned up in those questionable x-rays of things found in various rectums. Unlike the flashlights and coke bottles, it's very likely that the garage door springs are the result of mishap instead of shenanigans.

Hello!

A couple of people in the lawrence_ks community recommended I contact you about a question I have.

From my post:
"I'll be moving to Lawrence in the fall (for the English Lit PhD program at KU) and will be visiting to get things in order several times over the next few months. I'm looking for a good dog daycare facility, or at least a good boarding facility, for my Pixie (of the userpic). I absolutely hate boarding her, so a place with group daycare is much preferable; I figure she doesn't have a chance to feel displaced if she's running around playing. :)
I have exhausted my google skills. Any suggestions or leads will be greatly appreciated. Any other Lawrence pet-owner information you feel like sharing is also welcome!"

I also notice we have a few common interests--would you mind if I friend you?

Thanks!
--Keri :)

Re: Hello!

All righty, looks like that post is friend-locked, so I'll respond here after all.

I take [livejournal.com profile] hope_dog to Home Sweet Home doggie daycare. Here's what I found for contact info on the Web:

Home Sweet Home Dog Resort
2140 Haskell Ave.
Lawerence, KS 66046
785-832-8100

They do daycare, boarding, grooming - you name it! Only a few blocks away on 23rd Street is our vet:

Bradley Animal Hospital
935 E 23rd St
Lawrence
(785) 843-9533

And welcome to Lawrence and the English Department! I teach tech writing, fiction writing, and science fiction here. My KU (external) sites:

http://www.ku.edu/~sfcenter/
http://www.ku.edu/~techcomm/

Best,
Chris

Re: Hello!

Thank you so much for the recommendations and the warm welcome! I've called Home Sweet Home Dog Resort and they sound fantastic. I couldn't be more relieved.

I'm actually familiar with both of your websites--I read them (and all the other KU English pages) when researching PhD programs before deciding to apply to KU. And I currently teach tech writing at WSU, so we're kindred! :)

Oh, one more thing: I've heard rumors of a dog park in Lawrence; is this true?

Thanks again!!

Re: Hello!

Cool! How'd you like to teach tech writing here? I'll put in a good word for you if you want. We need more tech-writing teachers in the Department.

Yes, I know of at least one dog park. Check with [livejournal.com profile] starstraf for info.

See you in the fall,
Chris

Re: Hello!

Excellent--I've contacted starstraf.

I'm slated to teach 101 and 102 my first year, and I want to do that design-your-own-class thing as soon as they'll let me, but I'm definitely interested in the possibility of teaching tech writing after that. I want the most diverse teaching experiences possible (plus I've really enjoyed teaching tech writing at WSU).

Thanks again; I look forward to meeting you!
