Today I scooted over to Pet World to get Sophia the Ancient Mouse a new wheel (her old one was starting to wobble a bunch, and it must be tough enough for an old mouse to run at all). I also picked up a new Sparkle Ball for [livejournal.com profile] tatsuko_shikibu, because I gave them to Jen when she adopted [livejournal.com profile] sanju_devil_cat - they are Sanju's favorite toys.

I put the new wheel - after lubing its pivot with Chap Stick - in Sophia's cage, and all seems well. Then I tossed the new Sparkle Ball for Tatsuko.

You know how I've mentioned lately that she's been the happiest I've ever seen her since her tormentor, [livejournal.com profile] sanju_devil_cat, moved away? Well, she did something she's never done before: She played like crazy with the ball - not unusual in itself - but then carried it back to me in her mouth, wheezing all the way (she's asthmatic). She retrieved the sparkle-mouse about five times before deciding to lie down and just play with it on the catnip-laced rug.

I was so cuted out that I cried.

I love my kitty.

Oh, sweet little Tatsuko! This was very heartwarming. I remember playing with Sanju's sparklemouse, throwing it for her until *I* collapsed in an asthmatic heap, but never thought Tats would do the same.

I hope Sophia continues to have a long and happy life. At least her little mouse lips will be soft and moist, if she figures out the Chapstick thing!

I know! I couldn't help tearing up when she did that. Of course, she's since lost her sparklemouse, so I'll need to buy lots more so they're always available for playing!

[livejournal.com profile] sanju_devil_cat isn't able to play with her sparklemouses anymore because of her new roommate named Jet... a pup who EATS them. Sheesh, dogs: They don't realize you're just supposed to torture your prey indefinitely, not eat it!

I hadn't thought about the side-advantage of Sophia's little lips getting all soft and moist. Well!

That's so SWEET! Her personality is finally being given a chance to shine. I used to call my grumpy old beast "the cat from hell" because she was mean and suspicious and standoffish, hissing and swatting and hiding. But after I divorced my mentally ill ex-husband and his evil little dog, she transformed into a loving lap cat. I don't know if it was the dog or the ex stressed her out so much. Probably both. Cats truly channel the vibe in the room. Scruffle the little cutie for me, okay?

I know, and it makes me so happy!

I'm glad to hear about your own happy kitty.
