I don't know if I've mentioned it, but I'm seriously in love with this little hamster (Key) that I'm babysitting for a friend. Sadly, she goes back to her daddy soon.

Must go buy hamster. Must buy two so they can race around the floor together in their hamster balls.

In other news, I got a sympathy card from my vet for the little brown-and-black mousey. That made me smile.

I know! I go to Bradley Animal Hospital way out east on 23rd St. here in town. The vet is Dr. Gibbs, and she's always been very sweet. When we were at the end of our rope about [livejournal.com profile] hope_dog's thunderstorm phobia, she praised our efforts and offered good suggestion after suggestion.

Why do you keep getting "involved" in relationships with animals who have short life spans. Why not get a healthy dog or cat or something. I just fear for you if your little ones pass on.

Oh, but I do have a cat, [livejournal.com profile] tatsuko_shikibu, and woke up with her beside me this morning! She loves the little critters, too.

Do NOT buy two hamsters, or at least don't put them in the same cage. They are not social animals and will fight viciously. We made that mistake.

It depends on the type of hamster, but the most common (teddy bear hamsters) are fiercely territorial after the 8th week or so. Some hamsters don't like to be alone, so you have to do a little research if you opt for a more exotic type. :)

Ah, thank you very much for that info! Mouses seem to mostly like mouse company, and this hamster seems to very much like to be cuddled by humans, so I never would have guessed.

I'm so sorry about Mousey. I'm glad you had Key to distract you from the grief.

Dr Bradley is wonderful. He helped us through a NYE 2000 crisis with my old ferret, Loki, and even called in a surgical team on New Year's morning. And then let me make payments on the whole she-bang.

Dr. Gibbs is a honey, and really good. Everyone there has always been terrific.

Mice like having friends, I'm just saying.

Mice are NiceTM!

But, apparently, hamsters aren't nice (to other hamsters). But those fancy mice are sooooo cute!
