Yes I know - if you've never been to one, it sounds like a stupid thing to do with a Friday night. And yet! Yet! It's hugely fun and a great adventure. Here's the information (it's held during the Douglas County Fair).

Friday, August 4
7:30 p.m., Rodeo Arena
All Tickets $10.00

I've been going since I moved here and plan to never miss a year!

Best,
Chris

i am thinking of getting there 4:30 ish and bringing sandwich makings and what not so that we can get a good seat at the top of the bleachers on the right hand side of the bull ring. same place as a couple of years ago

I bet you don't get many demo-derbies 'round your part of the country, huh?

Ohhhhh....I don't think Ada would like it much at all. I'm not sure that Mac would like it much at all either.

Did I tell you that the '73 Oldsmobile Royale that I grew up with became a demo derby car? Yeah!

ya know what that sounds like. the perfect time for father daughter bonding while mommy watches cars crash.

That's a derby car Daddy!

Man I've been wanting to go for years, but there's some bizarre force of nature that keeps me from it every time. This year I have to go to the free concert that the b-52's are doing at some god fuckin awful shopping center near the race track in KC. But I'm really into Kate Pierson and can't refuse the free opportunity to see them play.

One year I went to buy a car because I had a 76 Mercury Cougar that was about to die forever on me...and the guy's kid said "That's a derby car Daddy!" about MY car and I got an even trade off of it because he wanted it for the derby.

Ahhh, the Derby! Back in the days of yore, I was in the pit crew area several years running. I would sit on the huge logs below the grandstand, getting totally spattered with mud, inhaling exhaust and oil mist and burning rubber fumes, and not infrequently having to bolt out of the way of cars spinning into said logs. It was marvelous!

Haven't been back in years. Somehow didn't seem like it would be as much fun from the grandstands.

That sounds like a blast (literally!). Aw, but it's still fun to watch with your friends. Trust me, you still get hit by all the good stuff in the bleachers, though you are safe from the largest flying parts of cars.

Wow, one more thing I learn about people at work that I never knew.

Unfortunately have too much already on for this Friday. But next year? Let's go for it! ......it's in the PDA now. The only thing scheduled a year in advance. :-)
