On the way home from class in Overland Park tonight - a 40-minute drive along a non-lighted Highway 10 - I encountered a rainstorm the likes of which I haven't witnessed this year. 'Twas about 10pm through about 11pm, replete with cannonade-sounding thunder and rain so down-pourish that one had to slow to about 40-50mph lest one experience hydroplaning and/or driving beyond the reach of the car's headlights. Some lakes at the leading and trailing edges of the bridges were so deep that they struck the bottom of the car. I'm not exaggerating. It was so loud that I could not turn up the radio loud enough to understand Dr. Drew.

Several times I told myself how pleased I was that I had taken advantage of the carpool option at KU for commuting to the Edwards campus at OP. I'm sure I would've put my little Crossfire into the ditch unless I'd kept it below 30mph, in which case I would have been RAMMED by the insane maniacal death-seeker who blew past at what must have been 80mph during a particlarly drenching moment.

Wow, I'd forgotten that we get storms like this in the fall. If this storm had happened in Minnesota tonight, there'd be 10 feet of snow on the ground.

*geekluv* ^_^

It took me way too long to realize the strange rumblings were indeed thunder. Tess actually had to explain it to me... Ha! It was an incredible storm!

Which is why we're happy that we're not in Minnesota. *sigh*

And hey, must run quick errand after class - see you around 3?

Three sounds keen! I'll try to get all my stuff done by then. Anyone besides you and me up for it, though?

Daaaang. Sounds apocalyptic. We had one like that in Florida on our trip - Shawn's dad had to pull over on the side of the road because we literally couldn't see to drive. I'm really glad you weren't in the Crossfire (or on a motorcycle - can you imagine???). I think the thunder was overkill.

I stopped off at the grocery store on my way into town, and just as I started crossing the parking lot,

CRACK-BOOM

- a bolt of lightning exploded like a ton of C4 going off just a block away. Holy mackerel!
