Before Hammie-Boy started living with me, I wasn't aware that hamsters barked. Well, he's doing it now, in his sleep.

This little guy is the sweetest, most charming hamster I've ever known. He's cuddly, playful, and patient even with children. And curious! (See below.)

I have a question for those of you "in the know" about hamsters: Do they all bark? Just the boys? Or is Hammie-Boy a rarity?

PS: Just returned from physical therapy. No super-powers yet, but flexibility is increasing fast!

Best,
Chris

They can vocalize

So a bark is not out of the question. I had one scream at a cat that had just shucked her out of the habitrail...

And Ms. Teresa had her late Porco Bueno howl when she was taking him home on the bus, something with a siren passed, it distressed him and he howled back.

They just don't do it much.

Re: They can vocalize

Hammie-Boy does it every day, at least! Up to a dozen little barks at a time. It's so cute!

I think you should make an MP3 of this. I've never heard of it!

I would love to do that! But I doubt I'll be fast enough: Usually, the barking only lasts a few seconds at a time, and there's no pattern to when he barks.

I had a total of 23 at various times. Few barked, but it didn't seem divided along gender lines.
