I just heard on the news that as many as half a million are dead in Haiti. In fact, according to CNN, "About 3 million people - one-third of Haiti's population - were affected by the quake, the Red Cross estimated."

Half a million dead is nearly incomprehensible, but considering the total population and how many more are seriously affected, it's catastrophic. Here's how you can help:

Click here to donate to Doctors Without Borders.

Tell the US Administration to stop deporting Haitians.

Click here to donate to World Vision.

Click here to donate to UNICEF.

Lots more out there, I'm sure.

In my Day Job (tm), I do quite a bit of writing for some of the first-responder and on-site religious organizations in Haiti (Port au Prince, specifically). The information we're getting from those folks, as we put together donor communications, is pretty astonishing.

Done, (Medicos sans Frontiers) and Done (petition.)

I am off to linky-linky to you, since you have already put all these lovely links in.

I hope that 500,000 figure isn't right. To put that in perspective - it would make this one the second deadliest earthquake, and twice as many deaths as the 2004 tsunami.

Me, too. Whatever the death toll, it's devastating for a nation the size of Haiti.

I have linked to you, Chris. I challenged people to beat my donation, though I did no say how much it was....hehe.
(hint: I got an unexpected windfall in the mail yesterday, and gave most of it to MSF.)

i totally donated to dwb. i tried to donate to mercycorps, too, but their site is down.

it's heartbreaking what's happening there.

The site probably crashed. I used the phone for dwb. There was a bit of a wait, but not a long one.
