...whoah. Just went to check Amazon links from the Basic SF Library page, and discovered a FREAKY thing: NO BOOKS AT ALL are available on Amazon.

Aroo? Is this yet another freak-out by Amazon against publishers everywhere?

Anyone know more?

Just talking about that. It's pretty widespread through their system, so I suspect a glitch...

...like the "glitch" that - during last winter's crusade against porn - removed all gay-related books, including scholarly works, because of "a coding error"?

*suspects more Amazon evil*

Actually, I suspect it's hacker problems...I can't buy Sweet Potato Pancake Mix either...so it's all over their store.

I think you can substitute barley flour for the wheat one to one. You may have to play around with it a little. Good luck :).

Alas, barley also has gluten. I'll try some mixes with a bit of xanthan gum... They do sound delicious and we all love sweet potatoes.

Oops, sorry about that. I hope you find something that works. They're worth it!

Irate publishers must've hired some hackers. Couldn't have happened to a better bunch of folks! You should Google "I hate Amazon" sometime. Enlightening reading.

See Aaron's comment above. I bet you're right about hackers (even if the publishers didn't hire 'em).

Mmmm. I love the smell of angry corporate douche-hats.

Hmmm...the only thing odd about the hacker theory is that it is very rare for hackers to take down a site like this and not let themselves be known. It would be an odd DOS attack since somethings that would be database calls are still working and somethings are not. And some pages aren't working at all.

I'm going with system glitch. Or hackers, but system glitches are easier to produce. Amazon's official word:

“We are currently experiencing an issue that is impacting customers’ ability to place orders on the Amazon.com website,” the company said on a forum for sellers. “We are working to correct the issue and will continue to provide updates until service has been restored.”

It's too bad that they own such a huge market share that we're dependent upon them to sell our books, particulary if you're with a small press and can't get shelf space in the big chains. Shucks.
