Last night was the 2010 CSSF Short and Novel Workshops gathering where everyone gets to know one another, and where we talk about how things work in the workshops, logistics, and theory. It also coincided with my birthday this year, which is about the time my first novel ARCs are being printed, so Jean (and others, I hear) made me this awesome cake:

That's James Gunn smiling behind the Cake of Awesomeness™, and me trying not to let the wonderful cake slide off its tray. Did you know good bakeries can take an image and use frosting-jet printing technology to transfer the image to edible goodness? Check it out:

Thanks, y'all! Okay, now I must head up to the dorms for lunch with these kind folks, and then the Workshop officially begins!

Best,
Chris

Gosh, who could that have been?!? Hmmmm...

It looks beautiful. That baker deserves a big ol' tip. Wow!

Holy crap, I think I need a frosting printer.

. . .I would print porn on EVERYTHING.

That would be AWESOME. Your friends would love you forever.

Isn't it, though? Y'know, you could have a special section in your classes where you teach frosting-print techniques. It would be very popular and sort of performance-art-like in its impermanence.

I'm glad you had such a wonderful cake for your birthday!

(And I did know. I've had one of my photos published on such a cake.)

Cool! You should own such a printer, methinks. I'm sure it wouldn't lead to anything bad...

Heh. I think your ass might actually like it; it's the rest of you that might disagree with said ass ;-)

I've been so good so far: Last night, I walked the workshoppers down to Silas & Maddy's and didn't get any ice cream for me.

That is just fantastic :) Okay, I know I'm not allowed to miss being there... but I do! Have a great workshop and enjoy the book launch (and lunch), Mr Novelist sir!

Sure, you can miss it! You've been missed, so it's only fair.

I saw one of those at World Fantasy a couple of years ago at a launch party. It was the first time anyone at the party had seen it, and before they cut the cake, the authors called everyone over to take a look at it.

Way cool.
