The greatest music video ever made.

This is one of the most-moving things I've ever seen. This kind of brilliance and cooperation - and all of it on a volunteer basis by what seems to be most of the city of Grand Rapids - restores my faith in humankind. Plus, it's one of the most powerful songs of all time. If you were offline during Memorial Day weekend like me (at the lovely ConQuest SF party convention), you might have missed it.

Roger Ebert calls it "the greatest music video ever made." WATCH NOW!

I teared up almost immediately and had to wipe my eyes almost constantly at the beauty of what it took to make this happen, with hundreds (thousands?) of people spontaneously getting together to declare their unity and delight together.

My late father loved this song. He was drafted for Veitnam and actually boarded a plane to go fight there. This is the last song they listened to before the plane lifted off.

They landed just in time for US troops to start pulling out and he ended up rerouted to Germany where he spent a couple of years delivering mail and learning photography. But whenever I hear that song I think of my eighteen-year-old dad (so young -- *so* young) in a bare-bones military plane with his duffel, thinking he might be saying goodbye to his home forever.

He would have loved the video.

Not only is it one of my favorite songs, I am back in Grand Rapids after many many years, and am very proud of this effort. We wanted to be a part of it, but fell ill on the very day! Yes, Chris, it brought tears to my eyes too. I am amazed at what these people here in GR did--the enthusiasm was even higher than I've come to expect in this transformed and transforming city. Very worthy of The Greatest Music Video Ever Made.
