Had the most trick-or-treaters last night than have ever visited the house. About 40 showed up between 7:00 (when I got home from class) and 8:30 (when I had given away all the Lara bars). Had to turn off the outside light so the little monsters and superheroes stopped coming! In recent years, our neighborhood has had about zero kids.
An observation: Most of the kids were very little, leading me to believe that they only just recently got old enough to go trick-or-treating without Mom and Dad.
Some amazing costumes! Perhaps my favorite was a robot made of cardboard, painted green. My favorite line, when a group of pre-teens were standing in the doorway picking their treats: "Wow, I love books! It's like a library in here." I built a story-and-a-half bookcase in my living room, which you can kinda see in this photo:

Hooray: Kids love books!

Inman's official Halloween program (put on as a benefit for the volunteer fireman's association in town) was on Tuesday, because heaven forbid anything happen on Church night! Anyway, anytime that the program falls on a day besides the 31st, turnout is really low.
Between that & our house being the only one accepting T&Ters that night, we really didn't have many-we usually go through two bowls full of candy (I use an old Schwan's ice cream tin, about 12" diameter and 5" deep), at least, and we had quite a bit left over.
We had a little Iron Man show up, and someone was a can of Pepsi. Several zombies, and my 2YO great niece decided to be a pirate this year because she wanted a sword!

I got a girl pirate, too! Plus at least two little Iron Men (Mans?), and a whole bunch of things that I would probably recognize if I watched more kid programming.

But when the party isn't on Halloween, then the big kids stay home (cause they're too cool to dress up for the party, doncha know!), and then go do their hijinks on the 31st. There was one lone streamer of TP on the blinking stoplight this morning! :D
