Okay, LJ power-users: Why does the Quote button go away after the first person posts a comment?

There, I did it. Now to see if it goes away.

Yup, gone. I don't get it. Also if someone else has posted.

OK, it seems you can only quote the original post once. But each person, the first they they comment, can quote once.

Hmmm...another experiment: Can you quote from this comment?

Yes, but only if I click the "More Options..." button.

Aha! CR discovered you need to click "More Options." Irritating to have to extra-click, but the feature is handy. I'll leave all these experiment comments here for your edifications, all.

I see the two of you were on the same train. Good to know this stuff!

If I had to guess, I'd say the LJ crew did this cuz otherwise people could misleadingly quote whatever the hell they wanted to from whatever the hell thread they wanted to into whatever thread they wanted to at whatever level. The other thing "More Options..." does is take you to a page where only what you are replying to can be seen on the screen, so you don't get to play fast and loose with quoting whatever.

I can. Although, if you want to quote, you don't need the button. Copy and paste works for me.

I'll have to see if I can quote again.

No, they did this because they have no clue on how to design an interface. Maybe the MovableType folks will straigten them out.

BTW--I always see the Quote button, but I'm replying in my style and not the default LJ style.

Alrighty then. I usually try not to flame the people who supply the service I use to socialize with, but I see you have other priorities.
